For almost three years now I have been a student at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. I am currently majoring in Illustration with a few classes in bookmaking, papermaking, and various observation classes. I am strongly influenced by fantasy art. Some of the artists I look up to are Gustav Klimt, A.Mucha, Disney, Brian Froud, and JW Waterhouse, just to name a few.

I have won a few awards pertaining to my fantasy art:

  • Silver Key Scholastic Award for a faery pencil drawing in 2000.
  • Best Amature Piece at the Demi Con SciFi & Fantasy Con in 2001.
  • Best Amature Collection at the Demi Con SciFi & Fantasy con in 2002.

Aside from my awards I am well known through my friends, peers, and instructors as a fantasy artist.

With my work I am constantly trying to find what works for my world and self. My work, as in "style" or "technique" changes often trying to find the right and snug fit for the world that lives inside me. I also want to make my fantasy my own. I do not wish to copy or make my work similar to any other artist out there. Right now....it does....but hopefully not in the end. Therefore I do a lot of studies in Art History and where fantasy art originated. I also do a lot of spiritual searching hoping that the faeries will assist me here and there in my creations (i.e. taking the paintbrush from me and saying, no, look at this. Thank you Rose*).

For over 6 years now I have been displaying my work over the web and around the Des Moines, Iowa/surrounding area. Plans are to focus on school and art, send work to conventions around the midwest, and work to make a place for myself in the fantasy world/faery world industry. ~

* Rose is my spirt guide.
